Four: Chief Petty Officer H.B. Simmonds, Royal Navy 1914-15 Star (168337 H.B. Simmonds, P.O.1., R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (168337 H.B. Simmonds. C.P.O. R.N.); Naval Long Service & G.C., G.V.R., 1st ´Admiral´s bust´ type (168337. H.B. Simmonds. P.O. 1Cl. H.M.S. New Zealand.), nearly extremely fine, together with the H.M.S. New Zealand Commemorative Medal (4) Estimate £ 120-150 Henry Bennett Simmonds, born Devonport, March 1877; enlisted in the Royal Navy, March 1897, in H.M.S. Impregnable; transferred to H.M.S. New Zealand, 19.11.1912, which served with Vice-Admiral Sir David Beatty´´s Battle Cruiser Squadron at the Battle of Heligoland Bight, 28.8.1914, the first major Naval action of the Great War; and at the Battle of Dogger Bank, 24.1.1915, and was present at the Battle of Jutland, 31.5.1916, when she fired 420 12" shells- more than any other ship in the Battle. Chief Petty Officer, 1.4.1918; retired 14.7.1919. The H.M.S. New Zealand Commemorative Medal was presented by the Government of the Dominion of New Zealand to the Officers and Men who served in her first cruise to New Zealand, 1913. Approximately 850 were struck before the dies were struck.
