Pair: Captain T. Knox, Royal Navy Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Syria (Thos. O. Knox, Comr.); St. Jean d´Acre 1840, gold, unnamed, pierced with ring suspension, as issued, good very fine Estimate £ 1,200-1,400 Thomas Owen Knox served as Commander in H.M.S. Rodney during the operations on and off the coast of Syria, 1840. Captain Thomas Owen Knox entered the Royal Navy 24.4.1824; appointed Lieutenant into H.M.S. Spartiate (Flag-Ship of Sir George Eyre), on the South American Station, 24.4.1824; further appointments included in H.M.S. Eclair (Captain Thomas Bourchier) and H.M.S. Pyramas (Captain George Rose Sartorious) before being appointed to H.M.S. Pallas (Captain Adolphus Fitzclarence) with whom he accompanied Lord Dalhousie and the Bishop of Calcutta from Portsmouth to Bengal, and on the return journey General Viscount Combermere from India to home; Lieutenant 15.2.1835; successfully nominated Second Captain of H.M.S. Minden, 29.3.1836, and as the same appointment for H.M.S. Rodney, 13.5.1840; Captain 14.6.1842. Provenance: Glendining, February 1940
