London Gazette 12.11.1889 Surgeon Ignatius Purcell Doyle, Indian Medical Service, Madras ´´In recognition of services during the late operations in Burma. Ignatius Purcell Doyle, Surgeon, Indian Medical Service.´´ M.I.D. London Gazette 15.11.1889 Surgeon I.P. Doyle, I.M.D. (Madras) ´´Distinguished himself much by personal courage and care of the risk of the sick. On the 19th December 1888, he was twice wounded. On the 1st January, 1889, during the withdrawal from Kan to Gangaw, he again distinguished himself; and it is greatly in consequence of his courage and bearing that the wounded got safely into Gangaw. I commend this officer very specially to the consideration of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief.´´ Major Ignatius Purcell Doyle, born in India 1863; educated at the French College, Blackrock, County Dublin and Trinity College Dublin; commanded No.1 Native General Hospital, Upper Shaikh; Major 30.9.1898; retired 1903.
