London Gazette 12.12.1919 Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander Frederick St. Barbe Wickham, R.N. ´´For valuable services in H.M.S. Hyderabad in Russia.´´ The Recommendation states: ´´I cannot speak too highly of the admirable work performed by Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander Wickham in H.M.S. Hyderabad when all the worst cases (including many military cases) had to be attended. Under his skill and care the medical and surgical arrangements in that ship have proved of inestimable value to the expedition. I beg that some special mark of award may be made to this officer.´´ Surgeon Captain Frederick St. Barbe Wickham, O.B.E., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., commissioned Surgeon Lieutenant Royal Navy, 4.10.1911; appointed to H.M.S. Alert, 7.3.1914, before being appointed to H.M.S. Vivid (Shore Establishment), later that year; served during the Great War, including with the Hospital Ships Garth Castle and Karapara, before being appointed to H.M.S. Hyderabad; the latter, a purpose built ´´Q´´ Ship - also known as the Nicobar, Coral and SSS 966, served as part of Altham´´s Flotilla in North Russia, 1919, where she acted as his depot ship; advanced Surgeon Commander 4.10.1924; post war appointments included with H.M.S. Assistance, H.M.S. St. Vincent, and as Surgeon Captain (retired) at H.M.S. Victory, from 23.2.1937, a position he held throughout the Second World War.
