Major-General Henry John Wood, C.B., (1791-1858), born Lewisham, Kent; Commissioned Fireworker, Royal Marine Artillery, September 1810; served in Alwar, 1813; Java, 1814-15; Lieutenant, 1st Company, 2nd Battalion, Royal Foot Artillery September 1817; served during the siege and capture of Hathras, 1817; Appointed Adjutant and Quarter-Master, 3rd Battalion, Royal Foot Artillery; Brigade Quarter-Master, Royal Foot Artillery, with Centre Division, November 1817; served during the Third Mahratta War, 1817-19; Adjutant and Quarter-Master, 1st Battalion, Royal Artillery, April 1818; Captain, Commanding 1st Troop, 3rd Brigade, Heavy Artillery, May 1824; served during the siege and capture of Bhurtpore, 10.12.1825-18.1.1826; Major, March 1841; posted to Command the Artillery Saugor Division, December 1842; Lieutenant-Colonel, July 1845; served during the First Sikh War at the mighty Battle of Sobraon, the ´´Indian Waterloo´´, 10.2.1846; Commanding 6th Battalion Artillery under Brigadier H.M.
