Res., attd. 59th By., 18th Bde. ´´On the night of 13th/14th October, 1918, he was in charge of a convoy of ammunition wagons delivering ammunition to his battery near Houthem. As the head of the column reached the cross roads it came under heavy shell fire. He waited there until the whole column had passed, steadying each team as it passed. It was entirely due to his coolness and pluck that the ammunition reached the guns in time.´´ M.I.D. London Gazette 23.12.1918 Pointer, 2nd Lt., R.L., attd. B/47th Bde., Royal Artillery.
