A Rare R.V.M. to Petty Officer Telegraphist E.J. Clare, Awarded For Service in the Royal Yacht H.M.S. Medina During the 1911 Delhi Durbar Royal Victorian Medal, G.V.R., silver (E.J. Clare, P.O.Tel. H.M.S. Medina 1911-12), edge bruising, contact marks, very fine, in case of issue Estimate £ 300-350 R.V.M. London Gazette 4.2.1912 Clare, Ernest Joseph PO Telegraphist, HMS Medina ´´HM visit to India for the Durbar´´ Petty Officer Telegraphist Ernest Joseph Clare, born Kensington, London 1885; served in various Ship´´s including H.M.S. Medina from 10.10.1911 to 15.2.1912. On 11th November 1911 the liner H.M.S. Medina left Portsmouth with the King and Queen bound for India. The ship transited in the Suez Canal, where for the first time the three flags flown by a Royal Yacht were seen east of Suez. On the return journey a hawser fouled a screw at Malta, causing a delay of three days whilst she was repaired. Spithead was reached on the 4th February 1912. The Medina was later torpedoed and sunk off Start Point, Devon, 28.4.1917. Petty Officer Telegraphist Ernest Joseph Clare was discharged as unfit for service 14.5.1940; died 8.12.1950.
