Terrible, 24.3.1902-24.10.1902; joined the Royal Fleet Reserve, 17.9.1909; served during the Great War on a number on Shore Based Establishments until his discharge, 30.8.1919. 7253 Leading Stoker William Edward Cripps, born Portsmouth, Hampshire, 1892; joined the Royal Navy as Stoker 2nd Class, 1910; his service during the Great War included with H.M.S. Magpie (gunboat), 1.4.1915-11.1.1917, and H.M.S. Furious, 26.6.1917-19.11.1917 and 15.3.1918-6.5.1919; the Furious was an early ´´aircraft carrier´´ on which, during the above periods, Dunning was the first person to land an aircraft on a moving ship (2.8.1917, he was killed on his third attempt at refining the technique) and from which her Sopwith Camels took part in the Tondern Raid (attacked Zeppelin sheds, July 1918).
