A Second World War Casualty Group of Three to Wellington Navigator, Sergeant R.G. Wernham, Royal Air Force, Killed in Action 26.9.1941 1939-1945 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; War Medal, all named Boots style ´924112 Sgt. R.G. Wernham. R.A.F.´ nearly extremely fine, with named enclosure slip in original card box of issue addressed to ´C. Wernham Esq, "Leander", Elmstead Heath, Colchester, Essex´ (3) Estimate £ 140-180 924112 Sergeant Robert George Wernham, native of Colchester, Essex; served during the Second World War with the Royal Air Force, including as a Navigator with 115 Squadron (Wellingtons), Marham, Norfolk, from 1941; he was killed in action whilst on an operational sortie (in Wellington IC R1332 piloted by Sergeant J. Horabin) to Emden, 26.9.1941: ´´T/O 1850 Marnham. Last heard on w/t indicating an engine was on fire. Subsequently the Wellington came down in the sea off the Frisian Islands´´ (Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War refers). The entire crew of six were killed; Sergeant Wernham is buried in the Sage War Cemetery, Oldenburg, Germany; the rest of the crew are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
