A ´1916 First Day of the Somme´ Casualty Pair to Private T.G. Norton, Essex Regiment British War and Victory Medals (23562 Pte. T.G. Norton. Essex R.), nearly extremely fine, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque ´Thomas Norton´, with original card packaging (3) Estimate £ 160-200 23562 Private Thomas George Norton, born Plaistow, Essex; served during the Great War with the 10th Battalion, Essex Regiment; died of wounds on the Western Front 1.7.1916; the 10th Battalion formed part of 53rd Brigade, 18th (Eastern) Division, on the 1.7.1916 they moved forward from Carnoy for attack south-west of Montauban at 7.30am: "the blowing of Casino Point mine which filled the air with debris injuring some of the men. Assaulted Pommiers Redoubt with 7th Bedfordshire and 11th Fusiliers at 8.30am- bombing party clearing 400 yards as far as White Trench" (Battalion historians Lieutenant-Colonel T.M. Banks and Captain R.A. Chell refer). Norton is buried in La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie, Somme.
