Aethelred II, Penny, 1.17g, small Crux type, London, Eadwine, bust left, sceptre before slanting into drapery, +aedelred rex anglov, rev. +eadpine m-o lvnd, voided short cross, letters in angles, a pellet at top of first and second quarters (N.770; S.1149), slightly crimped, about very fine Estimate £ 150-200 The addition of the pellets on the reverse is unusual, but is a characteristic found on some London Crux pennies e.g. see SCBI 7/650, 7/661, 7/773. They are most likely privy marks associated with mint output control.
