France, Philip VI (1328-50), Couronne d´or (1340), 5.36g, royal crown surrounded by six fleurs-de-lis, rev. cross fleury, quadrilobe in centre, crowned lis in angles, within tressure of arcs decorated with trefoils, quatrefoil punctuation on obverse, triple annulet on reverse (Ci.271; Dup.252; L.255; Ma.-), the surfaces affected by seawater but a pleasing fresh appearance with all the detail clear, slightly creased but the metal very good, good very fine, very rare Estimate £ 16,000-20,000 Found in September 2007 on the North Yorkshire coast.
