Ginelack, Royal Navy 1914-15 Star (J.26317. E.W. Ginelack, Ord. R.N.); British War Medal (J.26317 E.W. Ginelack. Ord. R.N.), very fine or better Pair: Ordinary Seaman C. Collins, Royal Navy British War and Victory Medals (J.70026 C. Collins. Ord. R.N.), BWM officially renamed, nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 100-140 M.2599 Engine Room Artificer Gordon Stewart Purdy, born Sunderland, 1895; joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Artificer, 11.9.1913; discharged 1.1.1929. J/26317 Ordinary Seaman Ernest William Ginelack, was killed in action whilst serving in H.M.S. Formidable (1st Class Battleship), when she was sunk by a torpedo off Start Point, Devon, 1.1.1915, ´´At 4.45am about two and a half hours after she was first struck, Formidable turned over to starboard and sank. Of the 780 person on board, 35 officers, including Captain Loxley, and 512 men were drowned´´ (Dictionary of Disasters at Sea During the Age of Steam, C. Hocking, refers); Ginelack is commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial.
