Sudan 1935 50th Anniversary of the Death of General Gordon Die Proofs A proof of the head of Gordon as used for the low values and a proof of the vignette as used for the 20pi. and 50pi., both in grey-blue on thin glazed card with "zkusmy tisk" handstamp (trial print) on reverse above a facsimile signature of "B. Heinz", fine. Photo Estimate £ 250-300 Note: The Czech engraver, Bohumil Heinz, who received several commissions from The Crown Agents in the 1930s, was also commissioned to engrave vignette dies for the Gordon commemorative low values and for the two highest values depicting the Gordon Memorial Service, based on the painting by R. Caton Woodville. The frames, all wording and other parts of the designs were engraved by De la Rue´s own engravers. The engravings were combined to produce single plates.
