Venezuela/Gran Colombia, 1/2 real or 6 1/4 centesimos, 8 May 1836, manuscript serial number 9867, black text on cream paper, manuscript Santa Fe de Bogota top centre, pineapple at centre, value in black lattice background at left and right, manuscript signature low right of Don Carlo Desquro (P.1), engraved by Peter Maverick of New York (active c. 1820), this series relevant to Venezuela, Gran Colombia, Ecuador and Panama, excessively rare, the series referred to by Beresiner in his book on Colombian banknotes although no mention is made of this denomination. Fine to very fine of pleasing appearance. Estimate £ 2,500-2,800
