An East India Pattern Carbine An 1856 Pattern percussion firearm, the lock-plate marked TOWER and dated 1857, 21in. smoothbore barrel with stirrup ramrod, the side of the butt stamped 4PC and 231, brass trigger-guard (lacking one fixing screw) See illustration Note: A British cavalry carbine of this period would have had a rifled barrel. The fact that this weapon has a smoothbore barrel tends to confirm that it is HEIC. 4PC indicates the 4th Punjab Cavalry. Estimate £ 250-350
