North Borneo 1916 (May) Maltese Cross Overprints Cross in Vermilion 3c. black and rose lake vertical strip of four, variety the upper two stamps overprinted in vermilion the lower two in carmine, unused with large part original gum; the lower pair with very light gum crease, otherwise fresh. A very rare and unusual variety of which only one sheet was found. R.P.S. Certificate (1998). S.G. 191a, £2750. Photo Estimate £ 1,800-2,000 provenance: Col. J.R. Danson, 1971 George Bloch, 1996 Spink Sale, October 2003 Note: This combination of overprints on the same sheet was discovered amongst a parcel of sheets allocated to the National Philatelic War Fund, and sold for the benefit of the Red Cross and St. John´s Ambulance.
