A Great War 1916 ´Somme´ Casualty Group of Three to Private J.T.L. Burrows, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment 1914-15 Star (22680 Pte. J.T.L. Burrows, Notts. & Derby. R.); British War and Victory Medals (22680 Pte. J.T.L. Burrows. Notts. & Derby. R.), good very fine, with portrait photograph (3) Estimate £ 160-180 22680 Private J.T.L. Burrows, born Nottingham; served during the Great War with the 9th (Service) Battalion Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment in the Gallipoli Theatre of War from, 31.12.1915, and was killed in action on the Western Front, 26.9.1916, when the 9th Battalion were involved in the ´Attack on Schwaben, Zollern and Joseph Trenches 12.35pm - first objective taken by 12.48pm, second gained by ´B´ and ´C´ Companies by 1.45pm, third by 2.30pm. Advance continued - Official History of the Great War notes parts of all 4 companies later in Hessian Trench - more than half of 33rd Brigade´s casualties (600) being sustained by the Sherwood Foresters.´ (British Battalions on the Somme, R. Westlake, refers); Burrows is buried at the Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boisselle, Somme.
