A Great War 1915 ´Gallipoli´ Group of Three to Private J. Peden, Royal Scots Fusiliers 1914-15 Star (7858 Pte. J. Peden. R.Sc. Fus:); British War and Victory Medals (7858 Pte. J. Peden. R.S.Fus.), extremely fine (3) Estimate £ 160-200 7858 Private James Peden, born Hamilton, Scotland; served during the Great War with the 1/4th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers in the Gallipoli Theatre of War from, 6.6.1915, and was killed in action 12.7.1915, when the Battalion were involved in the attack on Trench ´E11´, an attack which commenced in four waves at 7.35 am, with the advancing British troops finding themselves in a maze of half obliterated trenches, the number of Turkish dead being recorded as enormous by the War Diary, with the shallow trenches filled with their dead, in the afternoon the British managed to capture another trench; Peden is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
