A Great War 1916 ´Somme´ Casualty Group of Three to Sergeant Richard Gosling, Grenadier Guards 1914-15 Star (9552 Pte. R. Gosling. G. Gds.); British War and Victory Medals (9552 Sjt. R. Gosling. G. Gds.), nearly extremely fine, with Parchment Memorial Scroll (3) Estimate £ 180-220 9552 Sergeant Richard Gosling, born St. Peter´s, Hucknell; served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, in the French Theatre of War from, 23.11.1914, he was killed in action on the Somme, 15.9.1916, when the 2nd Battalion were involved in the ´attack towards Lesboeufs, where they followed 2nd and 3rd Coldstream Guards into action through heavy bombardment, shells, according to one source, said to be dropping at 1 per second. Battalion´s right on Ginchy-Lesboeufs Road- cleared enemy trenches at a point of bayonet-holding first and second objective by evening´ (British Battalions on the Somme, R. Westlake, refers); Gosling is buried in the Guillemont Road Cemetery, Guillemont, Somme.
