A 1917 ´Kut-al-Amara´, Road to Baghdad Casualty Group of Three to Lieutenant N.H. Wiggin, Royal Field Artillery 1914-15 Star (2.Lieut. W. (sic) H. Wiggin. R.F.A.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut. N.H. Wiggin), very fine or better (3) Estimate £ 180-220 Lieutenant Noel Holme Wiggin, born 1890, the eldest son of F.H. Wiggin, a tea planter of Colombo, Ceylon; educated at Cheltenham College 1906-09 and Caius College, Cambridge; Commissioned Second Lieutenant Royal Field Artillery, October 1915 and served during the Great War with 36th Brigade Ammunition Column in the Mesopotamian Theatre of War from, November 1915, ´He had seen eighteen months service abroad when he was killed at the taking of Kut-al-Amara from the Turkish defenders, in the advance on Baghdad, 11.1.1917. On the 15th August 1917 Lieutenant Wiggin was [posthumously] mentioned in the despatches of General Sir Frederick Maude, G.O.C. Mediterranean Force´ (Leaving All That Was Dear refers); He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial and on the Charlton Kings Memorial and the Church of the Holy Apostles, both in Cheltenham. His younger brother Second Lieutenant D.H. Wiggin, 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment had died of wounds in France, 23.12.1914.
