Three: Paymaster-in-Chief W.C.P. Grant, Royal Navy Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Syria (W.C.P. Grant, Clerk.); Baltic 1854-55, unnamed as issued; St. Jean d´Acre Medal, silver, toned, nearly extremely fine (3) Estimate £ 800-1,000 Paymaster-in-Chief William Charles Perry Grant (1821-1901); appointed Clerk´s Assistant Royal Navy, February 1839 and posted as Clerk H.M.S. Cyclops in November of the same year; he served in her during operations on and off the coast of Syria, 1840, including: the bombardment of the fort at D´Jebel (11.9.1840); the bombardment and capture of Batroun (15.9.1840) and the bombardment and capture of Sidon (28.9.1840); Passed Clerk 1842; served in H.M.S. Collingwood (Flag Ship of Sir G.F. Seymour, Pacific), as Secretary´s Clerk, 12.6.1844-14.2.1847; posted as Paymaster and Purser to H.M.S. Cormorant, 15.2.1847; after a period of half pay Grant was posted in Pay Charge to H.M.S. Dauntless (33 gun Steam Frigate) and served with her in the Baltic, 4.1.1854-11.10.1854; specially appointed as Purveyor to Lord Granville´s Embassy to St. Petersburg, for the Coronation of Tsar Alexander II, August 1856; specially appointed for the Royal Visit of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) to Canada and the U.S.A., 1860; similarly appointed to the Royal Yacht Osborne for the tour of the Middle East by the Prince of Wales, 1862; further postings included as Secretary to Rear Admiral H.T. Austin, C.B., 10.4.1863-8.4.1864; to H.M.S. Black Prince (Flag Ship of the Channel Squadron), Secretary to Rear Admiral A. Phillimore and subsequently to Rear Admiral W.M. Dowell; retired as Paymaster-in-Chief to reside in Cheltenham, 1881, after 42 years service in the Royal Navy.
