Low Countries, Beggar´s Medal, cast lead oval medal, 26.6mm x 21.5mm, bust of Philip II of Spain left, rev. two clasped hands holding a beggar´s wallet (van Loon 85,3), pierced at 12 o´clock, very fine Estimate £ 200-250 Some of these medals have been attributed to J Jonghelinck. Though many medals were made in base metal, only silver and gold examples are believed to have survived from the period and all base metal examples are believed to be later casts.
