The Peace negotiations mooted in 1641 finally got under way in 1644-45 at Münster and Osnabrück, culminating in the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. This medal is dated 1641, the year when it seemed all sides were at last ready to negotiate a lasting peace. Several similar gold and silver Medals issued by Johann Georg of Saxony are known, but they are dated 1644. This medal is dated 1641, and so appears to be extremely rare.
