Machell Correspondence 1884 (Nov.) envelope (complete with letter) from Wadi Halfa, marked "Semneh Stamps not available" and showing small bi-lingual c.d.s., boxed "T" and "P.C", "i.b./21/2d" and Ottringham arrival c.d.s., Alexandria, Hull and Ottringham c.d.s. on reverse. Cannon Machelle at Roos Rectory, Hull during the Second Nile Expedition and later Col. Machell took part in the Nile Expedition to relieve General Gordon. He was in command at the capture of Fort Khor Mousa and also took part in actions at Gamaizah, Toski and the capture of Tokar He was killed in action while leading his men at the battle of the Somme on 1 July 1916 The contents, which were originally written in pencil and have subsequently been written over in ink, give details of the writer´s journey up river from Assouan
