x Falkland Islands Airmail 1934 (30 Nov.), Internal Catapult mail, envelope to San Carlos, bearing 2d black and brown with type set "air mail" overprint in violet neatly tied by Port Stanley c.d.s.; horizontal fold at foot, otherwise fine and exceedingly rare being one of five recorded examples. Photo Estimate £ 6,000-6,500Note:The first airmail service of the Falkland Islands was provided by the catapult aircraft aboard the British naval cruiser, H.M.S. Exeter, which was in Falkland waters from 18 November 1934 until 2 January 1935. The plane apparently made several internal flights during that time, though there is no record of how much mail was carried. Five covers and two "pieces" have been recorded. The five covers are as follows: 1. Bearing an unoverprinted 11/2d dated 23 Nov. 2. 2d stamp to San Carlos (this and the rest dated 30 Nov.) 3. 2d to Port Howard (addressee Vincent) 4. 2d to Chartress 5. 2d to Port Howard (addressee Pole-Evans) This example is illustrated on page 41 of "the postal cancellations of the falkland islands" by Barnes
