Great Britain Postal History 1915 an official "War Office" envelope with red wax seal of the "Secretary of State for War" on flap, addressed to the New Zealander Lt. General Sir W. Birdwood at Shepherds Hotel, Cairo and showing handstamped signature of "Kitchener" at lower left. Photo Estimate £ 200-250 Note: Sir William Birdwood served under Kitchener during the Boer War and then in India. Under Kitchener´´s instruction he formed the Australian and New Zealand Armys Corps (ANZACS) and was wounded at Gallipoli. He was promoted to Lt. General in 1915 and after the Dardenelles Campaign returned to Egypt during 1916
