Sudan The Campaign for the Recapture of Khartoum 1898 (11 Mar.) 1pi. "enveloppe-lettre" addressed to Gore Anley at Suakin, headed "Attbara Camp" and clearly cancelled by "berber" c.d.s. without date (Proud Type D1) with another clearer strike alongside; the envelope with top flap missing which has resulted in a few tears at top and some very light discolouration in places. The message refers to Dervish deserters informing of Emir Mahmud´s Army starting north from Shendy to retake Berber, and to numerous movements of the British Brigade as a result. Scarce.
