Auction: 6021 - Great Britain Stamps & Covers
Lot: 57
Great Britain Postal History England, Scotland & Wales 1828 and 1840 privately carried entire letters, the address panels showing ink manuscript "with a Dog" and "With a Gold Watch" (such annotations on letters accompanying parcels or goods were prohibited as they were deemed to be in contravention of the Post Office monopoly); a fine, clean and most unusual pair. The first letter is especially interesting - the content is a printed declaration by the sender, refuting "claims in the Devonshire Chronicle", and the gift of a spaniel bitch appears to be an attempt to bribe or influence the recipient!
