x Great Britain Postal History Ireland 1860 (3 Feb.) pale orange envelope to addressed to "Robert Browning, Casa Guidi, Florence, then forwarded to Rome, bearing 1858-76 2d. plate 8 and 1855-57 4d. carmine strip of three tied by fine light "55" numerals of Ballyshannon and two strikes of the large red double-ring "england per aachen" d.s., a range of other handstruck and manuscript rates adjacent, the reverse with seven different despatch, transit and arrival datestamps; some light creasing and small perf. faults though in no way detracting from the wonderful appearance of this cover so full of character. Note: Robert Browning, the famous poet, was resident in Florence and Rome at this time. The reverse of the envelope bears an intriguing manuscript note reading "P Parva I love you" (P Parva meaning "poor girl") although apparently in a different hand from the address - perhaps a literary musing by Browning himself?. Photo Estimate £ 800-1,000
