Ireland, Limerick, Butchers´ [Guild], Halfpenny tokens, 1679 (2), Lamb and flag, rev. Butchers´ arms (Q.53-4; M.12; Williamson 565), fine overall for the issues (2) Estimate £ 80-100Limerick butchers´ tokens of 1679 have almost certainly been associated erroneously with the Isle of Man. The ´Butchers Halfpence´ cited in the Tynwald Act of 1679 must have been understood as the Wilson tokens; the Limerick pieces would surely have been of too recent and too local an issue to have become substitute money elsewhere (cf. Clay, pp.52-4).
