Royal Manx Fencibles, a copper button, 25mm, triskelion, royal manx fencibles on garter around, rev. firmin & westall strand around remains of brass shank (Q.234), pitted but fine, lacquered Estimate £ 100-150The manufacturer, Firmin & Westall, was at 153 Strand, Westminster, during the period 1797 to 1812. The shank was probably smoothed off to enable use of the button as an unofficial halfpenny (cf. Clay, Currency of the Isle of Man (Douglas, 1859), p.103).
