S. Ash, ticket(?), 5.09g, rev. view of Peel Castle, from the die of Littler, Dove & Co.´s Shilling of 1811 (lot {item 37}) (Q.66; Withers 2059; Pr.50; M.105), nearly very fine / fine, scuffed and a little scratched but apparently sharper than the Caine (lot 2775) specimen; exceedingly rare, perhaps only two extant Estimate £ 500-700This piece, and that in the next lot, has been thought to be either a trial or test piece of the Littler, Dove & Co. shilling (Pridmore, p.22; see lot 508 above) or a farthing token (Withers, p.233). The metal is in fact brass, not copper, and the Pridmore and Caine specimens noted after the next lot exhibit traces of original tinning. Efforts to trace the issuer have so far been unsuccessful
