Victoria, proof mule Penny, 1859 (Q.37; cf. S.7417c, but not bronzed), nearly uncirculated, lustrous but the reverse has been lacquered, exceedingly rare Estimate £ 1,000-1,200This coin, and those in the two following lots, was produced by the Royal Mint probably in the late 1860s, either for record purposes or as an example of its work to secure coining contracts abroad. The reverse dies in each case had been used for the 1839 Manx coinage, the obverse dies for British coins.
