x Chile 1861 watermark "20", imperforate, 20c. yellowish green, small margins all round, neatly handstamped by part strike of the "cancelled" obliterator, fine with part original gum Estimate US$ 4,500-5,500Note: In August 1861 the printers, Perkins, Bacon & Co., provided six examples of each stamp in their possession to Ormond Hill (eldest son of Sir Rowland Hill) for members of the family. These fascinating stamps and the story of their appearance, have been fully described by Peter Jaffé in his book "Cancelled". This is the only recorded example. provenance: Peter Jaffé
