Trinidad 1868 (22 May) blue envelope to Newfoundland, headed "From No. 1277 Pte. John McGrath 2/16th Regt.", countersigned by Commanding Officer, bearing1863 CC perf 12 1/2 1d. lake placed sideways and cancelled "1" in square of bars, showing large manuscript "1" in red crayon, light "trinidad/paid" in red and "harbour grace" (2) double-arc d.s. and, on reverse, St. Thomas and St. John Newfoundland c.d.s.; the envelope with vertical crease and tear on flap though a rare early stamped soldier´s cover to a most unusual destination.
