x Newfoundland The "cancelled" Obliterators In August 1861 the printers, Perkins, Bacon & Co., provided six examples of each stamp in their possession to Ormond Hill (eldest son of Sir Rowland Hill) for members of the family. These fascinating stamps and the story behind their appearance, have been fully described by Peter Jaffé in his book "Cancelled". 1860 (5 Aug.) medium hand-made paper, imperf 3d. green with good margins, neatly cancelled by large part strike of the "cancelled" obliterator, fine.
