x Sarawak, James Brooke, Rajah (1841-68), AE Keping token, (1842), badger to left, jb sept 24 1841 below, rev. Malay inscription of value and date (AH 1247) (KM.Tn1; Pr.30), minor flan flaw below badger´s head, very fine / good very fine, extremely rare, particularly so this fine Estimate £ 1,200-1,500The date on the obverse is when James Brooke became Rajah, and the reverse is from a worn ´borrowed´ Singapore die. The badger or brock is derived from the crest of the Brooke arms. These rare tokens, when seen, are usually in poor condition. A note on Remick´s envelope indicates that it was bought in London in 1972 for $240.
