Engel & Lehr 593. pl.XXXIX 6), some spots on reverse, otherwise very fine, very rare Estimate £ 1,200-1,600In 1584 the town of Strassburg (Strasbourg) started negotiations to be included within the Swiss Confederation. After resistance from the catholic Cantons it eventually restricted negotiations to Zurich and Bern. An alliance was signed on 23 May 1588, and pieces in gold, Double Talers and Talers were distributed according to rank. The silver Talers were given to city councillors (Engel & Lehr, p,217,note 1).
