TRANSVAAL 1870-74 Typographed by J.P. Borrius at Potchefstroom. S.G. 20-23, 25-37 Covers 1876 (July) envelope front to Scotland, bearing 1/- green on thinnish opaque paper bisected diagonally and cancelled with target obliterator, in combination with Cape of Good Hope 1d. red (wing-margin) and 4d. blue pairs each neatly cancelled with barred oval "1" and with Cape Town transit c.d.s. for 4 August alongside; a few small faults in places though a very rare and attractive combination franking. B.P.A. Certificate (1968) when it was a cover. Photo Estimate £ 1,000-1,200Note: This franking receipts payment of the ZAR interstate rate of 6d. per half ounce and the Cape inland and packet rates of 4d. and 6d. per half ounce respectively. The 4d. + 6d. Cape rate was only in force for eight months, from 1 July1876 until 28 February 1877. This front, when a complete cover, was in the van Blokland collection, and it is known that it was backstamped to record receipt in Meigle on 28 August. It was therefore carried aboard the "Walmer Castle", which sailed from Cape Town on 4 August and, after calling at Madeira on 22 August, reached Plymouth on the 27 August
