Charles I, Shrewsbury mint, Halfcrown, 13.24g., 1642, Shrewsbury horseman walking left, no ground below, Shrewsbury plume behind, rev. declaration RELIG:PROT:LEG ANGL:LIBER:PARL in two lines, three Shrewsbury plumes above, date below, group of seven pellets before EXVRGAT (JGB -; Morr. C-8 (unpublished); N.-; S.2929A) striking cracks on edge at 3 and 9 o´clock, slight scratch on horse, otherwise attractively toned, with traces of blue underlying lustre, good fine, a very rare variety Estimate £ 600-800PROVENANCE: V J E Ryan, Glendining, 22 January 1952, lot 1283 P Hunt, portion of collection purchased privately by Colin Adams, March 2000 The combination of this obverse die, Shrewsbury horseman without ground-line below, and a reverse die, three Shrewsbury plumes above the declaration, is unpublished in Morrieson. Ryan recorded in his notes that he knew of only two examples.
