Charles I, York mint, Halfcrown, 13.46g., type 7, tall equestrian portrait of king in armour left, holding sword upright, horse´s tail flows between legs, EBOR (over EBOR in smaller letters) below, reads MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB, rev. crowned oval shield with lion-skin garniture, m.m. lion (JGB 1087 (same dies); Besly 2D; N.2315; S.2869) slight dents in field below horse, otherwise evenly toned, good fine, a scarce and curious variety Estimate £ 300-400PROENANCE: H M Lingford, collection purchased en bloc by Baldwin, 1951 The letters EBOR below the horse are stamped over a smaller set of punches for the same word taken from the Threepence reverse.
