Charles I, group III, Halfcrowns (2), type 3a2, king in armour on unadorned horse striding left, cloak flies from king´s shoulder, rough ground beneath horse, rev. large oval garnished shield, (i) 15.19g., 14.81g., reads MAG BRIT FRA ET HIB, m.m. star (over triangle on obverse) (cf. JGB 353; N.2212; S.2776); (ii) reads MAG BRI FRA ET HIB, m.m. star (JGB -; N.2212; S.2776) the first on a small flan, toned, very fine, the second heavily double struck, on a full flan, otherwise fine, both scarce mintmarks (2) Estimate £ 200-250PROVENANCE: (i) V J E Ryan, Glendining, 22 January 1952, lot 1098 B R Osborne, Glendining, 23 April 1991, lot 165 The first is struck from the same dies as lot 123 above
