xTogo Anglo-French Occupation Issues 1914 (17 Sept.) Overprinted "TOGO/Anglo-French/Occupation" at the Catholic Mission, Lomé Wide Setting with lines of overprint 3mm. apart 2m. blue showing weak "A" in "Anglo", variety "Occupation" double, neatly cancelled with large part Lome c.d.s.; fine and a great rarity. Holcombe Certificate (1992). Sc. 45b; S.G. H11a, £11,000. Photo Estimate £ 6,000-7,000 Note: When one sheet of the 2m. value was overprinted, the impressions were so low that the word "Occupation" was cut through by the perforations. The printer attempted to correct the error by removing the word "togo" and "Anglo-French" portion of the overprint setting and printing the word "Occupation" a second time above the first impression. Bob Gibbs has recorded fifteen of the twenty positions in the sheet, of which the lower left corner block of four is in the Royal Collection provenance: Marquess of Bute, 1959
