xBRITISH POST OFFICES ABROAD Brazil Rio de Janeiro 1873 entire from Havana to Buenos Aires, carried privately to St. Thomas (blue forwarder's cachet on face), bearing pen-cancelled U.S. 10c. and 4d. vermilion Pl. 12, both tied by fine "C83" obliterator and showing sender's cachet at lower left; the entire with some minor faults along folds otherwise fine. A scarce combination franking Estimate £ 300-400 Note: This cover was carried privately from Cuba to St. Thomas where it was handed to the Danish Post Office for a vessel of the "United States and Brazil Mail Steamship Company", which ran from 1865 to 1875 a packet service from New York to Rio de Janeiro calling at St. Thomas, Bahia and Pernambuco with monthly departures. The G.B. adhesive paid the postage from there to Buenos Aires
