Charles I, Oxford mint, Triple-unite, 27.09g., 1643, well proportioned crowned half-length bust of king left, holding sword and olive branch, plume behind, rev. declaration RELIG:PROT LEG:ANG LIBER:PAR in three lines on a scroll, value and three Oxford plumes above, date below, three pellets after INIMICI, m.m. Oxford plume on obverse only (B-J dies VI/S7; Schneider 294 (same dies); N.2384; S.2727), a very handsome full round coin, small flaw by sword hilt, faint scrape by plume in obverse field, otherwise the portrait in high relief, extremely fine, very rare thus Estimate £ 15,000-20,000PROVENANCE: E Cartwright, collection purchased en bloc by Spink, 1970 This reverse die, B-J S7 with three pellets after INIMICI, is rare, possibly because of the incipient die breaks at 3 o´clock caused it to be withdrawn. It is normally found employed with the previous triple-unite obverse die, die V with scarf below the olive branch, cf. Schneider 292. There are only two known examples of its use with this obverse die , die VI, the other being the Schneider coin, no.294, ex Lockett 2418
