Frankfurt, Blanchard´s balloon flight over Frankfurt, 1785, white metal medal with copper plug, by Johann Christian Reich, 46.5mm., bust of Blanchard left, rev. balloon over the city (Forrer V.70), extremely fine Estimate £ 300-350François Blanchard (1738-1809), the noted French aeronaut, made his first ascent in 1784. He crossed the Channel from Dover to Calais in 1785, made over 50 ascents throughout Europe, and later visited the U.S.A.
