Charles I, Oxford mint, Shilling, 1644, 5.74g., crowned bust of fine style left, value behind, rev. declaration RELIG.PRO LEG.ANG. LIBER.PA. in three lines, three Oxford plumes above, 1644 OX below, lozenge stops, and by plumes and date, m.m. small Shrewsbury plume on obverse only (Morr. D-3; JGB 944 (same dies); N.2449; S.2975), light crease across king´s crown, and on plumes on reverse, otherwise a handsome coin, neatly struck on a round flan, very fine, very rare Estimate £ 500-600The ticket records a purchase cost of £0-17-6 Coins of this die pairing, Morr. D-3, are struck to a much higher standard than the normal run of Oxford shillings, on unusually full round flans, and Morrieson suggests that they are patterns.
