Elizabeth I (1558-1603), first issue, Shilling, 5.88g., wire line and beaded inner circles, bust 1A, large crowned bust left with plain dress between beaded straps, two pellets after REGINA, rev. long cross fourchee over square shield, m.m. lis (Brown & Comber bust 1A; N.1985; S.2549 var.), slightly double struck on obverse, otherwise a full round coin, lightly toned with underlying blue/red lustre, good very fine for this, extremely rare Estimate £ 600-800This very distinctive large bust, with beaded straps to the dress, bust 1A, is known for the first issue, m.m. lis, with wireline inner circles, (S.2548), and for the second issue, m.m. cross crosslet, with beaded inner circles, (S.2555A). This coin provides the missing link, the first issue, m.m. lis, with wire line and beaded inner circles, (S.2549), and does not appear to be published
