Henry VII, facing bust issue, Halfgroats (2), class IIIb, Canterbury, King and Archbishop jointly, rosette stops, (a) m.m. tun/lis; (b) reads CANTOR over LONDON, m.m. tun (N.1712; S.2210); Penny, sovereign type, York, Archbishop Rotherham, single pillar to throne, rev. keys below shield (N.1728; S.2236), the first on a small flan, almost very fine, the second struck slightly off-centre, good fine, a dramatic alteration, the third scratched on reverse, fine (3) Estimate £ 60-80The reverse die of the second coin initially read CIVITAS LONDON in full, and has been corrected to CANTOR by punching in four new letters, C/L, A/O, T/D and R/N. The original state was clearly a die-sinker´s error since no coin of this reverse type is known at London. A similar correction on a Henry VIII third coinage penny is discussed at length in Spink Numismatic Circular, August 2005, pp.
